Mind Set

 Part 2 of 6

Your mind set is the most important of the top tips. Without being focused you will never be able to start the new regime let alone stick to it as a lifestyle change. Everyone is different but to give you some idea it takes approximately 8-12 weeks for a new routine to become habit, which of course means that there is going to be 8-12 weeks of horrible torment where you will be tempted every second of everyday by the ‘evil’ luxuries we all have around our homes. There are ways to help you to be strong through the first tough weeks.

Record everything, training times, what you eat and how you are feeling. A Health Diary, if you like. Not only will this monitor how you are doing but it will also help to drum in the new lifestyle.

Try not to exercise alone, get a friend to exercise with you. Make sure that they are as determined as you are as you don’t want to be diverted from your goals by someone less committed than you. Once you have chosen a suitable partner you will find that you help each other in your weak moments when the temptation can become too great to ignore.

A personal trainer may seem like an expensive option to the majority of us but they can be of great value in guiding you through the first difficult stages. Of course I would say this as I come from a personal training background. But seriously it is a very good idea, you don’t have to see them every week; it could be just once a month. They then will be able to monitor your progress and set you up with training and diet routines for the time you spend away from them. The less time you spend with them the harder it will be for you to avoid temptation but consider the time you spend with them as education. With a good personal trainer you will learn a lot of the basics in a relatively short amount of time. We also tend to stick to routines more if we have someone to answer to. Don’t worry, not all Personal trainers are drill sergeants. Make sure you find one that will push you through your low times and who you will get on with. Set yourself realistic goals to help keep the mind interested on your lifestyle change. I will get more into goals and how to set them and what are realistic goals tomorrow till then keep healthy……………….

A personal trainer is great for anyone to get them jump started. A good trainer can also help the individual to form a habit. At some point in the process, the person has to decide they want to do it on thier own.
