After reading an article in the Daily Express newspaper printed on our fair British Isles I thought that it would complement my recent post on the “Reverse Diet”. The very talented writer Liz Hazelton has brought to our attention that the perfect breakfast could be ham and cheese with a side helping of cold potatoes (yummy, who needs cereals? Beeble).
Slow Release Foods
The scientific studies that came up with this conclusion have focused on the very popular subject of slow release energy foods. The old glycaemic index has come up again where foods low on this index are said to be more beneficial to us than foods high on the list. Of course this is has been around for a while and we should be aware that our favourite cereals covered in sugar result in an energy boost, but this is then followed by a dip resulting in lack of concentration. Whereas more complex carbs will release the energy more slowly and therefore not create the stage where one needs to snack in order to increase the energy levels again. It allows us to last through to the next meal, supposedly!
