Those of you who read my last post will realise that today is the day that the experiment starts (I start training again!) I will be writing every day this week to inform you of my first week’s progress.
Excuses, excuses…
Today is the chest and biceps day which has to be one of my favourite exercise routines. I am amazed at how many excuses I found to avoid doing the training: I almost had to drag myself into the gym kicking and screaming, however I made it and even the 80 mph winds we are experiencing didn’t keep me away!
Once in the gym I didn’t feel at home at all, even though I use it to train my clients, I felt very self conscious. My brain was constantly telling me to give up and to take the easy route, I had a feeling that this would happen but I carried on regardless. I used a post that I had recently written to help motivate me called ‘Just do it!’ I found that it really worked if I just ignored all my reasons for getting out of training and just did it.
Loss of strength and stamina
The program itself was great, it really pushed me and I felt trained to the maximum I could achieve. What struck me though during the training was how much strength and stamina I had lost over the last 6 months. The amount of weight I could shift was less than half and my muscles tired very quickly. This return to full health could be much more difficult than I first thought. If you judged how hard I found it by the amount of faces I was pulling during the training then you will know I was struggling.
So after Day 1 I have learned that if you stop training completely for a long period the speed that you lose muscle, strength and ability is far greater than I could have possibly imagined and tomorrow I should be hurting a lot! However, I did feel better after the session and I know I had been missing that energized feeling that results from training well.
Join me and get back into training again!
If you have neglected your training and would like to join me on my quest to get back to full fitness then please join up at gyminee.com and join my group which you can find by clicking here. Good luck and enjoy!
