Getting Back to Training – Day 2
Well, Day 2 of my training experiment has passed and it was a Legs Day today. I cannot walk up the stairs at the moment because I have trained my legs to fatigue and I nearly collapsed when I took my dog out for a walk. To make the whole experience that much worse my chest and biceps are becoming very sore from my first day of training which was yesterday (moan moan moan – Beeble).
More importantly I made it to the gym, although to be fair I was there for a client initially and if I am being honest there was a temptation just to leave straight after. Although, as my client knows about the experiment she was adamant that I trained and experienced some of my own torture. You see even us Personal Trainers need help with motivation and if you need help with your motivation then I can recommend no better way than to write a diary or blog like I am. It gives me someone to answer to and that is a very powerful motivator.
Legs, legs and more legs
I have to say I am quite proud of my progress today and have found that my legs – whilst losing some strength and stamina – have not lost nearly as much as my chest and biceps have. The only reason I can come up with for this is that whilst over the last 6 months I have not exercised deliberately, there is someone in our household that does need regular exercise with no excuses and that is Sparky our Border Collie. So our long long walks may have helped maintain a degree of strength in my legs. I guess the only weakness I found were my lunges where the technique did wander slightly off course towards the end of each set.
The benefits?
I have been told that I am sounding very negative about training, but I guess those of you who have started training or resumed your training will understand the muscle soreness and the ability of even the most mundane tasks suddenly seeming far more fun than training. Putting all the negatives to one side though, I have noticed one benefit that has occurred far more quickly than I thought could have happened and that is that I am becoming far more productive. Where my work would take me 5 or so hours in the afternoon I have managed to reduce that to just 3 hours! I have always known that exercise promotes productivity and a sense of wellbeing but I was not expecting to see the results so quickly.
So tonight I have planned a lot of stretching and a soak in a warm bath to relax those aching muscles. If you would like to join me (in the BATH? – Beeble)….that did come out wrong. No, what I meant was if you would like to join me on my journey to regain my fitness and yours, you will be very welcome . You can do this by joining gyminee.com for free and then joining my group which is also free where you can find my programs by clicking here.
Good luck to all of you who join in and good luck to everyone on their fitness journey. Please write in to tell us how you get on.
