Cycling my way to fitness
“On your bike Hugo!” is a quote I often hear from my clients (be honest, the language isn’t that polite – Beeble) and so I have taken it to heart. Last month my cardiovascular day consisted of jogging, this month I am literally getting on my bike and peddling off into the sunset for at least an hour. The weather is spring-like and just for a change it’s not raining, so it should be a pleasure …
It has been some time since I have been on my bike, however, it is like riding a bike!?!! and I haven’t forgotten. My choice of cycle routes was off-road as firstly it is much safer and secondly it is, in my opinion, much more interesting. There is a chance to see the countryside, enjoy the fresh air and avoid breathing in petrol fumes.
I was out for an hour and the hills were a real struggle, especially because of the hard leg exercise I gave myself yesterday. However I did not get off and push the bike once and more importantly I enjoyed every minute. It is important that you push yourself during your cycle route but be sensible, if it feels like your heart rate is going through the roof just stop and rest.
And no excuses…
If you are following my progress and taking part and you don’t have a bike then please continue jogging and don’t use today as an excuse not to exercise.
Let me know how you are getting along with your training. Good luck!
