The Health Benefits of Campesterol

Picture of avocadosCamp what? More silly names… but don’t worry, it’s only one of those nice little phytosterols: nutrients that we get from plants (also known as plant sterols) just like beta-sitosterol. And just like beta-sitosterol, campesterol is one of the more abundant of the 40 or so phytosterols found in plants.

For more information on Phytosterols please read our post on beta-sistosterol.

Does it reduce cholesterol?

Some research suggests that phytosterols such as campesterol help to reduce cholesterol because it helps inhibit the way the body absorbs bad cholesterol from meat and fatty foods, but this is not conclusive. Conversely, too much phytosterol can in fact cause a fatty build-up on the artery walls that can lead to heart problems.

Foods that contain campesterol

Campesterol is found in margarines, vegetable oils, seeds, nuts, fruit and vegetables including beans and avocados. Have a look at our list of the top 100 foods that contain campesterol.

Do I need a supplement?

Supplements are unnecessary as this nutrient is easily obtainable from natural sources.

I am quite confused, is it also named AVOCADO? It’s nice to know that there available fruits that can help us lower our cholesterol which are not expensive as having some medication.

love avocado, and even better if it helps reduce cholesterol. Virgin coconut oil is also an awesome fat that helps lower cholesterol.

AVOCADO! I’ve heard it is also an afrodisiac… Well, so it’s two in one then! Good post, thanks for sharing.
