When I am out and about and the topic of conversation turns to me and what I do for a living, I am tempted to make something up and reveal my hidden identity as a secret agent (in your dreams - Beeble). Why? Because when people find out I am a personal trainer the first question is nearly always “what can I do to lose these bits?” or “what can I do to lose weight quickly?” In the early days I used to give a long explanation about how it takes hard work and how every individual is a different case and I couldn't possibly tell without spending some time training them. As I blabbered on about the body's energy systems I noticed their attention start to waver and you could almost hear their brains switching off (probably because you're so boring – Beeble).

You don’t want to burn fat during exercise.

Judea Brown Sr., Master Trainer and Nutrition Advisor, shares why every woman should be incorporating resistance training into daily activities. In addition to preventing illness and disease, resistance training creates important muscle health that supports overall strength, balance, bones, heart, metabolism, stress levels and more.

Many women stay clear of resistance training for fear they will add too much bulk, but that myth couldn’t be farther from the truth. According to the Yale-New Haven Hospital HealthLINK for women, weight training is defined as “exercise that adds resistance to the body’s natural movements in order to make those movements more difficult and make the muscles stronger. The key word here is “stronger,” not “bigger.” By adding muscle, women can effectively increase their metabolism up to 15 percent (Center for Disease Control (CDC), Tufts University research) because muscle is what burns the calories – even when at rest. There are five key things every woman should know about resistance and strength training that are vital to staying fit and enjoying daily health:
