Many of us are now looking forward to a well earned break and even as I write this my mind wanders: I picture myself on a beach in the early morning, just as the sun is waking, eating my freshly picked grapefruit. Is it just me that considers the grapefruit’s acidity and high water content so refreshing? Probably not, but seeing as most fruits are high in water content and refreshing it is probably that time where I look a little more deeply into this bitter fruit.
What is in a Grapefruit?

With Summer in the air and the warmer, longer evenings allowing us to make the most of being outdoors, it is time for the strawberry to make a return to our diets in other forms than just jam/preserves. Strawberries and cream, strawberries and sugar and as natural flavourings in ice cream, milkshakes, yoghurts and smoothies. Yes, my friends the summer is coming but is there any nutritional weight behind the sweet flavour of the strawberry? Or is it just a flavouring for you champagne lovers out there.
Ah! the ever popular cranberry - available as a sauce which is popular world-wide but especially for our American and Canadian friends, as it is an important part of their Thanksgiving menu. Cranberries are one of the few fruits that are native to North America and they are available in the shops from October to December. The other popular method of cranberry consumption is in juice form and it is actually this form that has bought the little cranberry to my attention. Recently in the U.K. there has been an advert for cranberry juice that has appeared more than a few times on my television screen. So I thought today we could take a look at our cranberry friend in its original form.
This is another fruit that I have eaten, but I do not have it at the top of my shopping list. It is one of those fruits that not everyone immediately takes to and more often than not we add a nice dollop of cream to take the edge off (of course not too much! – Beeble). Let us have a look at what nutrients make up our peachy friend.
I have a very mixed opinion when it comes to the Kiwi as far as taste goes. It only seems to be in season for a very short amount of time which means that most of the time when I eat one I am wincing like I have just sucked on a lemon. That said I have found out some interesting facts which I was not aware of and now my opinion has changed (we are very pro kiwi – Beeble).
